Child protection law in the digital world

The fact is that there is still no explicit right to protect children on the Internet. In 2022, the Unicef started a child rights campaign, which was about showing children's rights and making visible in the everyday life of family, society and politics.

The result of the study that the German Children's Aid Work on the subject of personal rights of children in the context of digital media use in the family is initiated:

"Parents are largely overwhelmed in the context of media education and get into a conflict between responsibility and controlling interventions in the privacy of children".

Social media - the new photo album

Parents are the primary decision -makers and predominantly determine which photos they take from their children and which they publish. Social media has long been part of everyday life and, among other things, serves, including families to regularly update over distances. Many adults are not aware that a photo on the Internet and on social media channels such as Facebook, Whats app, Instagram, You Tube etc. is not a private photo album, but is accessible to many people and is therefore visible and usable.

What is the reason to question this topic?

The Internet is a powerful universe. Information can be researched at any time, anywhere and in a short time, you can network worldwide, communication has become many times easier and offers can be used around the world. This transparency also harbors consequences, especially for children and their future. The more photos of children are posted, the higher the risk of bullying, stalking, violence, embezzlement to pedophilia and attacks. Photos, especially regular postings from everyday family life, release sensitive data that are a treasure trove of data () purchases for users of the Darknet. Families make themselves vulnerable.

The child's right to participate

Parents are responsible for themselves and their children, but every child has rights to respect and integrate it. Parents often act from their own emotional need when, for example, they post milestones in their child or when it comes to paid advertising cooperation. The child is usually not asked about the publication or it cannot yet correctly assess this load -bearing decision and cope with it independently. An assault happens that violates the child's right to privacy and as an equal decision -maker. Everyone wants an encounter at eye level, protection, respect and maintenance of the privacy. It is true “joy”, at the same time feelings such as joy, anger or sadness are also deeply emotional moments that should be encountered in mind and with dignity.

Children's photos at influencers: inside

Family bloggers: In the inside, say that children are part of society and should not be “locked out”. The joy is the focus and children are also “rewarded” with the products of the campaign. In addition, the interaction of the followers increases because children's photos are simply stimulating.
The decision whether and how children are integrated is up to everyone: R Influencer: In self. It seems important to the influencer Easyalex that you agree as a parents and that the way of acting can then be carried by both.
“My tip to parents is that you are totally honestly clarified together: What are the dangers, why do we actually want to show our children/already on the Internet? Then to think about what is ok for me? How far out are we going? What do we show, what do we not show? Then it can be decided much easier what is posted and what is not because this delimitation has already been clearly communicated. ” - @easyalex

Why has it Stapelstein® decided to protect and against children's photos with facial recognition as a marketing strategy?

Although Stapelstein® Products for children develop, mostly do without emotionally focused children's portrait photos. Protecting the child's privacy is very important to us and has priority. Last but not least, cooperations with partners: inside that had a long range have already been canceled. At the same time, we were able to inspire and motivate some companies with our claim to marketing without children's faces to rethink the effects of non -censored portrait photos.
We at Stapelstein® Share the opinion that children from our society are indispensable and should be there - the much more important question for us is how.
Precisely because children and their parents as well as institutions in which children are accompanied, the target group of Stapelstein® we consciously take this responsibility seriously. We are committed to a child -friendly world because the voices of the youngest generations often remain unheard. As an up -and -coming company, we see this need as an occasion to be a model for children on the one hand and on the other hand for other sustainable companies.

Many companies are afraid that they will not be authentic enough if they do not use children's photos with faces. They fear that they will lose sales. We can refute this assumption with our corporate experience and marketing strategy. We are happy to share our know -how with interested companies in this regard and look forward to being able to put basic elements together in the right light in order to ensure children more protection and security in the future.

What measures do we take from Stapelstein® For the protection of the children?

Website and newsletter: On our website as well as in the shop and in the newsletter, we only use photos of children whose faces are not recognizable. We focus on the active and creative free play, which we underline through the images staged.

Social media: Here, too, we only publish posts and pictures on which the child's face is unrecognizable.

Cooperations: In the case of cooperations, we always make sure that we can maintain this standard as high as possible. Especially with paid advertising cooperations, there is a fixed guide that determines our requirements for cooperation. Nevertheless, we are sometimes dependent on compromise solutions in cooperations, in which our values sometimes match. Only in very selected individual cases, we take this hurdle, check the profile and look at the entire context.

Censorship: With as many cooperations as possible, we want to do without children's faces for photos or videos. If it is still not possible, the covering of the face by digital elements is okay for us.

Photo and video material: A child -friendly and authentic setting is particularly important to us here. We see our work in the fact that we are inspired by the children and adapt our projects to it. The focus is on creating individual worlds and the moods of the moment. Childrene faces are covered and our photo and video: inside use a wide variety of perspectives in order to do justice to the protection of the child.

Because transparency is important to us

Stapelstein® is not perfect and we always learn. Nevertheless, we are on a very good way and realize that we take a pioneering position with it. We appreciate our courage to have chosen this path and want to inspire as many companies as possible because children have the right to protection and security. Let's go together for a child -friendly world.
